Over the years I have visited Sugar Mill Ruins at six different locations on the island of St. John. Reef Bay, Little Lameshur Bay, Brown Bay, Annaberg on Leinster Bay, Caneel Bay and Catherinberg on Centerline Road, the only ruins that are not located near the waters edge. In Memory of Larry "Alan" Humburg (1954 - 2007). Recorded on location at Coral Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands, January 2007. Alan Humburg was a long-time local St. John musician with many talents and a zeal for life. Though afflicted with a disabling physical illness, his spirit soars in humble surroundings while singing one of the many tunes he had authored. Alan was a good friend of mine. Early on our group takes a detour off the beaten cart trail and checks out the "Immigrant Beach" where hundreds of "illegal immigrants" from around the world are secretly dropped off on their search for a new life. We take it on the road and down to the islands, flying into St. Thomas and then water-taxiing to St. John where we land in the middle of the local Jambalaya Festival. The first edition in our tour of the U.S. Virgin Islands, mohawk-optional.
