In the United States, the descendants of immigrants from Nola, continue the tradition in Brooklyn, Harlem and on Long Island.

We were the first gringos to show up at a cockfight in this isolated town in the mountains of Dominican Republic. We were looking for some real local flavor, and we definitely got it. Cockfighting is still 100% legal in a handful of countries around the world, and advocates of this blood sport would think we were crazy for raising an eyebrow about this worldwide obsession. It is valuable insight into a culture, but definitely a little disturbing.

Part 1 shows the first 3 floats. Part 2 shows the fourth float, accompanied by dancers representing both traditional and modern forms of Polynesian dance.
