Stony Batter is a former gun emplacement to protect Auckland Harbour. Never fully commissioned, it was ultimately deactivated and is now a park with amazing underground tunnels connecting the former emplacements. Above, huge boulders bare testament to a ancient volcanic eruption. A glorious and evocative landscape.
