From AdventureUs Outsider, Dannielle Hayes: “Early February 2008, I traveled to Panama to spend the first week aboard Panama Marine Adventures' MV Discovery, for ‘A Journey Between the Seas.’ Beginning in Panama City, we sail to the Pearl Islands, then to the Darien to see the Embera Indians. The journey continues through the Canal, with a visit to the Smithsonian's Tropical Research Center. Then we exit to the Atlantic near the town of Portbelo, founded by Christopher Columbus in 1502. My second week was on Kuna Yala, commonly known as the San Blas Islands where I was working on a story, ‘The Mola Makers of Kuna Yala,’ published in the Fall 2008 issue of the Smithsonian's ‘National Museum of the American Indian Magazine.’"

After two weeks of work and travel in Colombia, our group of 12 arrived in Panama City for a couple of days of R and R. Our hotel was right on the Panama Canal so ships going by were constant. We visited the Canal Locks and spent a whole day (seperate video) at a Traditional Waunaan Village. Check it out! Produced by Andrew Burnett, Come Out And Play Productions, andrew@goodimpressions.us

It's a Jungle! Part One -Traditional Waunaan Village- Panama Canal

Our group had the privilage to visit a Traditional Waunaan Village on the Panama Canal. This village was started about 30 years ago when a family of Waunaan People came up from Colombia to settle. This was an authentic village and not a "Show Village" just for tourists. We received the invitation because a women who grow up at our church married one of the men from this village. Alex and Jennifer Cabezon founded a children's home so village kids could get a good education. You will see scenes of daily life in the village, cooking, native crafts and transportation using dugout canoes - the prefered mode of travel for the Waunaan.
