The greatest masterpiece of the pyramid builders were the Pyramids of Giza, built near the capital city of Memphis for the fourth dynasty kings Cheops, Chefren and Mykernos who reign through 2589-2504 BCE.
When you see the pyramids up close, they're not as smooth as they appear. Rather, you can see blocks of about 5ft each stacked up. The alabaster (sp?) was removed over the years for money. e.g. the pyramids used to be white.
This was from a trip in 2002 not too long after 9/11. Our travel advisors told us that everything should be okay but try to stay away from mosks on Fridays during Ramadan. Well, here we are.
