Description: Took a short trip to City Island where I met several locals who taught me about the nautical history of the island. Ate lunch at The Lobster Box and chatted with people about City Island, a spot that some New Yorkers don't even know about. Met owner of Le Refuge Inn and took a tour of the quaint bed and breakfast.

i went there last new years. unfortunately, most of the shore is private, and the public areas close at dusk. pretty nice there though, very nantucket. plus there's an irish pub that stays open all night and has dancing on new year's.

I can't believe I've never been there, and I've been living in New York for 6 years! Definitely will make a daytrip of it!

should have mentioned that there are boats easily available for rental for the day. from sail boats to fishing boats to day trips up and down long island... fun place..
