Description: We were the first gringos to show up at a cockfight in this isolated town in the mountains of Dominican Republic. We were looking for some real local flavor, and we definitely got it. Cockfighting is still 100% legal in a handful of countries around the world, and advocates of this blood sport would think we were crazy for raising an eyebrow about this worldwide obsession. It is valuable insight into a culture, but definitely a little disturbing.

Great job except for the part about teaching them to fight. I think ya just got your wording mixed up. The birds fight naturally. The training is for the conditioning stage not to teach them to fight. If you were to turn the birds loose 100 ft apart they would eventually come together and fight. Other than that great job, bring it to the states and show the sport and culture right here in the best country in the world.

we completely agree that ultimate fighting is equally as perverse, the only distinction being that humans have the choice to get in the ring. events like this exist everywhere in the world, so this is not a dig at the Dominican Republic. Cockfighting is actually very popular in underground circles in America, and shows you how far people will go to continue this tradition.

reading about somebody judging other culture traditions as pervertions sounded wrong. I belive that here in the USA. There is Ultimare Fighting were humans fight till one of the gives up. I strongly believe that everybody should respect other people's culture.because each society has its problems.
