Shark Diving International sucks!! who in their right mind will throw a white shark against a weak cage like that one. All that risky shit for trying to get an adrenaline bust or a good photo. Are you f***ing sea cowboys or what is the deal here??

**How is this video a harm to the industry? Maybe the industry is a harm to itself and maybe "SHARK DIVER" and Luke Tipple should stop using this video for there betterment! Accidents happen and none wants to see these Sharks harmed!** Let's see now BECAUSE of this video Mexico shut down chumming at the island. Accidents happen, but this is the 3-4th time with the same operation. As for the claim that others are using this video for betterment?

Patrick Walsh who shot this clip is a media hog who does not care about the damage he has caused by selling this wherever he could. Shark Diving International who caused this breach should own up to it and stop telling people they have a 100% safety record, they do not, and they also know this was not the first cage breach they have had at this same site. Let's get real here.

Nicely done Patrick Walsh. This video was responsible for the complete ban on chumming at Isla Guadalupe this year. Harm the industry? As a diver who had his trip screwed by you this year I can attest to that. We sat while the MX Navy started at us for two full days, no chum. Maybe if you had thought for two seconds. You're a piece of garbage.

The company responsible for this is Shark Diving International aka Great White Adventures. They are based in California. They have been under investigation in Mexico for this event and two others where sharks slammed into or got stuck in their cages with divers. Their website still claims a 100% safety record even after this video.

Nice footage - horrible cage. If there was an inexperienced diver in that cage with 50lbs of weight and surface supplied air there's a good chance they'd be heading for the bottom. So much for 100% safety. If you're going to put tourists in the water with the ocean's apex predator you'd better make sure your cages can handle 'accidents'. A bent bar is one thing - the whole front falling off is rediculous. At any rate nice job keeping your cool.

Hey RT Dean you're not the same Dean Karr that told everyone on his blog this summer that a shark got stuck and died out there are you? What a load of crap. Fact is Great White Adventures and Lawrence Groth more than a *few* accidents like these caught on tape. Warp it anyway you want in your eco banter, this is continuing animal cruelty period. If these were whales getting trapped like this you wouldn't be writing, "In relating the damage of possible cage entanglement to a shark, they have a very tough and strong constitution and the cages are made out extremely light weight aluminum and would probably be comparable to us getting hit with a wet noodle." Take care of your cages and your sharks Great White Adventures and stop treating this site like a personal playground-otherwise a shark and or diver WILL get killed, and then you can call it another "accident". You and this video are giving a black eye to an entire International Industry.

In closing, I am not a shark expert. . .these are just my thoughts. I do feel if we are going to help save the worlds shark populations, we've all got to work together to educate folks and be in more harmony so there won't be so much confusion. If they don't think we're credible, they won't listen. I think maybe we need to not get caught up in a "we can't see the forest for the trees" syndrome. I think there are lots of us out there with differing views of how it should be done, that need to respect and appreciate each other's efforts and realize we are all trying to accomplish the same end goals.

There was at least one shark conservationist/researcher on each of the trips who taught us about the importance of conserving the shark population. Not a single person on either trip wanted to see a shark injured, and I witnessed none of this. The shark, CC (Cut Caudal) was seen to be healthy on following trips. Keep in mind these sharks, at certain times, will bite each other, causing unbelievable damage to each other. Surprizingly, they seem to fare pretty well, even after such damage. In relating the damage of possible cage entanglement to a shark, they have a very tough and strong constitution and the cages are made out extremely light weight aluminum and would probably be comparable to us getting hit with a wet noodle. I was standing on the back of the boat and observed the "great white shark accident" from just a few feet away.

I have now done 30 dives with sharks, since this past summer. That is amazing, considering I was really fearful of these things, just 6 months ago. I decided it was time to face my fears and began to educate myself about the truth about sharks. For me, being a long time surfer and diver, I had thought that to rid the oceans of sharks would be a lot safer for all of us. I have since discovered I was terribly wrong! Now, I believe the key to saving many of the 100 MILLION or so sharks killed needlessly per year is education of influential people. The Guadalupe boats charge in the range of $3,000 per trip, and that means taking out influential people who can be very helpful in the overall conservation of the shark population, worldwide. On the two trips to Guadalupe I was on, this year, by two different operators, we had a world class famous photographer, TV show producer and many others of this caliber.

What BS!!! A perfect example of why it is unwise to feed white sharks, especially for shallow self centered recreating 'ego-tourists' who apparently have no regard for the animals well being. Shark watching and/or cage diving does not require the feeding and/or provoking of the sharks and no-one of an honest mind say that the shark was not injured. No other wildlife is exposed to this kind of abuse and exploitation, tour operators take advantage of the sharks bad reputation to rationalize these types of 'accidents' that somehow happen every season, year in year out; it's unoriginal and exploitive. How is it that this wild animal eco-tour operator, calling themselves America's #1 Shark Diving Company, is now essentially blaming the shark for this horrific cage breach by calling this event an "accident". Was it an "accident" that they were at this dive site? Was it an "accident" that they had cages in the water? Was it an "accident" that they had chum attracting the shark to the cages? It is the worst kind of eco tour company that blames the animals they work with for mistakes made by the company. There are rules and regulations of this dive site prohibit hang baits in front of shark cages. Shark Diving International aka Great White Adventures knows these rules, and obviously ignored them. This is the second video in less then two years from the same company featuring the same cage breaches. There are trip reports of other cage breaches from this company going back to 2003.

This is taken from Great White Adventures aka Shark Diving Internationals website: Top Equipment – When it comes to diving with white sharks, cage design is obviously not an area where you want to cut corners, so to speak. Ours spacious cages are state of the art, designed by us and manufactured to our exact specifications, sparing no expense. We oversee every aspect of their construction from start to finish. A cage will not go into the water until it passes with our seal of approval. With our wealth of experience behind us, we know what designs work and more importantly, what doesn’t work. structural integrity, and protective capabilities. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we are flattered more and more with each passing season as we notice cages remarkably similar to our unique designs on other boats. You know this has happened to them before?

I booked the Trip with Shark Diving International (www.greatwhiteadventures.com). Who, by the way, are the best!!! The whole team was unbelievable... The whole trip was amazing, before and after the accident! I highly recommend this company if you are looking for the ultimate Shark diving experience. Clearly this was an accident, and luckily nether the Shark, Paul (the other Diving) or myself where hurt!
