There are a couple of thousand plant species found in Cyprus, many of which have been imported. Larnaca has a good selection of sandy stretches. In the east there are luxurious hotels and wavebreakers. In the west, tourism is not as developed and the number of visitors is lower. In summer the sea at Protaras is very calm and the water really warm. The sand is golden. There is a selection of secluded coves and organised sandy stretches. Fig tree and Konnos are probably the most famous of the Protaras beaches. In summer some get really packed.

Resorts and wavebreakers characterise Limassol central beaches. But outside Limassol, it is a very different story. The amenities are gone, the hotels are gone, and you may be almost alone on the beach. Make your choice.

The park is one of the jewels of Cyprus nature. More than 200 square kilometers for hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, nature study, photography, swimming, sea kayaking and snorkeling.

They are certainly part of Cyprus natural heritage. They are awe inspiring, some having been around for 12 or 15 centuries, some having incredible heights, canopy surface areas, or trunk width. Many of them live in the yards of landmarks such as churches, monasteries and castles, while others are found in the fields or high up in the Troodos forest and ravines. Most of them remain unnoticed by the majority of the local (urban) population and of travelers to Cyprus. Yet they can be a precious resource for the island to cherish and protect, as they can be touristically utilized and help pump needed income to depressed rural communities. Above all, they deserve our respect and protection.

One could virtually hike all the way around its coast (except for a very few tricky spots). Of particular interest are walks in Cape Greko, north of Protaras, near Governor’s beach, west of Paphos and Akamas. Inside the forests one could try the official trails, or synthesize her own route. Both Paphos and Troodos forest are excellent, offering trails of various levels of difficulty, length and scenery variety. The Akamas peninsula is another hot spot for walkers and one can easily spend 3-4 exploring it. One could combine walking with the study and photography of plants and birdwatching, or compose routes that will take him by locations of rich cultural importance (eg. the 10 Troodos churches that are Unesco World heritage).
