Denver: Flying High: Potentially Great News for Snoop, Potheads
Posted on Jun 24, 2008 08:15 PM

Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation is a Colorado-based group that says marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. And what better time to get that message out there than after a boozed-up passenger got thrown off her JetBlue flight at DIA.

Says SAFER Excutive Director Mason Tvert:

Adults should be allowed another option for relaxing and dealing with their anxiety when they fly. It is irrational and potentially dangerous policy to continue allowing passengers to get drunk before and during flights while prohibiting them from simply making the safer choice to use marijuana prior to boarding.

We can think of at least one travel guru would probably get behind this effort: Rick Steves. And come to think of it, SFO already has one pre-boarding pot lounge. Book those flights now, Snoop!

The Democratic National Convention won't happen till the last weekend in August, but campaign staffers were finally able to take a brief travel break with the media anointing of the Democratic nominee for president.

While political road warriors take a break, we're thinking ahead to the convention--and the delightful Dems coming to the Mile High City. Drinking liberally? Try dating liberally:

DENVER: Room With an Anti-View: Plenty of Parking Spaces at Courtyard Denver
Posted on May 08, 2008 03:27 PM

You know the scene. You open the door to your brand new hotel room, run over to the window, open the blinds and bam, you are hit with the anti-view. Maybe you are looking down a dirty alley, witnessing a drug deal, staring at an air shaft in the face, or seeing a brick wall. Whatever you are viewing it is not extremely pleasurable. Help out your fellow hotel mavens by uploading your anti-views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number with the not-so-easy-on-the-eyes view.

To be fair, most hotels can't actually change that much about

Denver: Inside the Hyatt Regency Denver :: Now with Photo Essay
Posted on Apr 28, 2008 06:38 PM

We had some technical difficulties a few weeks ago when we first posted our review on the Hyatt Regency Denver and thus we couldn't get up all of our pictures from the room. (Let's just say our computer hates traveling.)

But now we present you with some more snaps inside room 1134 which we scored on Priceline.com for $75 a night. Don't forget to watch the hotel video tour here.

Denver: Inside the Hyatt Regency Denver

This is room 1134 inside the Hyatt Regency Denver where we spent some time this past weekend. As we told you yesterday, we had a successful check-in attempt with the self-service kiosks in the lobby and that probably set the tone for the rest of our stay.

Actually, maybe the feel-good tone started way before that when we actually booked the hotel room. We did it through Priceline, our first time booking through that site. And our bid of $75 was accepted right away.

Regular room rates at the hotel, which are higher during the week when conventions are in full force across the street, are about

Denver: Finally, A Successful Check-In Kiosk Attempt
Posted on Apr 14, 2008 04:01 PM

Hotel check-in kiosks have never quite taken off the way that airport check-in kiosks have. Indeed, the hotel's versions of easy check-in have been labeled "dust collectors" in the past and we've read a ton of reports that these things just don't work.

Well, maybe that is about to change.

We checked into the Hyatt Regency Denver (aka the headquarters hotel for the DNC this summer) over the weekend and upon walking into the lobby, a greeter immediately ushered us over to the machines (pictured above). Before we could protest, the greeter urged us to give the kiosk a try.

It was incredibly easy. We simply swiped the credit card that we used to book the room

Denver: Room With a Killer View: Marriott Denver City Center
Posted on Mar 20, 2008 03:01 PM

We are suckers for a room with a killer view.  We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

What makes a killer view even better? When someone has a killer view from their hotel room and can take a really

Denver: Express Check-Out: Hyatt Regency Denver is The Ultimate Hotel for Democrats
Posted on Mar 19, 2008 10:01 PM

The Hyatt Regency Denver has just been named the headquarters for the Democratic National Committee which will announce its presidential candidate at Denver's Pepsi Center Aug. 25-28. The Denver Biz Journal reports:

"Outside Pepsi Center, the Hyatt Regency Denver will serve as the primary nerve center for our convention operations -- our home away from home ...," said Leah Daughtry, CEO of the Democratic National Convention Committee.

Indeed the convention will be good for all Denver-area hotels. The Democratic National Convention Committee expects convention delegates, media and others coming to the event to take up roughly 17,000 rooms at 100 metro-area hotels. In a scary hotel market, Denver is going to get a healthy little boost.

Denver: DIA Still Keeping Some Sites in the Dark
Posted on Mar 05, 2008 10:01 PM

Apparently the reporters over at the Denver Post don't read Jaunted. If they did, they'd have heard months ago that Denver International censors the web. But we suppose if you haven't heard, it's breaking news to you.

Here's the scoop. DIA implemented Webwasher, a filtering product, after it made its wireless network free. Ostensibly it's to keep bored people from looking up porn, but the filters are also blocking gossip sites like Perez Hilton and Jossip as well as geek fave Boing Boing. We'll concede that Perez may not be embodiment of gentlemanly discourse, but he's hardly worth censoring.

Amazingly, some of the Denver Post's more puritanical readers think it's a good idea for the airport to implement this heavy-handed filtering. Us? We'd rather be left alone--and free to surf the whole Internet as we see fit.

Have your own travel-related web censorship tale? Take a screenshot and let us know.

Denver: Hotel Monaco Denver Invites Women to Get Drunk, Propose
Posted on Feb 08, 2008 04:01 PM

Apparently it's a tradition for women to make marriage proposals in leap years--so commitment-adverse partners take note of February 29 in 2008, especially if your loved one suggests getting away that weekend to Denver's Hotel Monaco.

The Kimpton-owned property is offering a "Dare to Propose" package, which for $259, includes valet parking, gourmet aphrodisiacs, special Leap Day cocktails and micro-brewed beer.

It was not disclosed whether the abundance of alcohol here is meant to give women the courage to pop the question or to get one's companion drunk enough to say (or slur) yes.
