Las Vegas
Las Vegas blogs
When a friend invited us to join her on a little sojourn to Las Vegas to check out the Cher show, we jumped at the chance. Sweetening the deal was her room at the Trump Las Vegas, a new hotel which we have seen from afar but had never stepped inside.
Yesterday, we reported that we were liking the Trump after one day. There were some downsides but overall we were kinda loving it. Having no casino or nightlife, it was a refreshing change of pace for this frequent Vegas visitor.
Oh what a difference a crappy night's sleep makes.

As we told you earlier this month, The Echelon Project which was to include a Hotel Shangri-La as well as a Mondrian and a Delano has been put on hold until the credit markets get better. That means construction that has already started on the site has been stopped indefinitely. Here's what it looks like now.
While new projects have been delayed or crapped out completely in Las Vegas, we aren't noticing much of a downtown in Sin City just yet. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, visitor numbers and occupancy rates are down just a touch. But it's not hugely noticeable. The crowd at the Cher concert was nearly sold-out on Sunday,

That little ol' hotel in the center of the Cosmo construction is the Jockey Club
Since the Cosmopolitan has been in the news lately, we've seen alot of pictures of how the site looks and one thing we've noticed - the Jockey Club, which is a timeshare hotel - is being surrounded on three sides by the Cosmopolitan. We're not talking about a parking lot, or grove of trees, or a pool - we're talking about 10-story high concrete walls.
That would make the Jockey Club the ultimate Room with an Anti-View!
We did some investigation and it turns out that the Cosmopolitan and Jockey Club actually are good neighbors. Yes

Cher is back in Las Vegas again, having started up the second round of her concert shows at Caesars Palace and we were very fortunate to be able to get second-to-last row seats in the nosebleed sections to see this diva perform.
And we actually got quite a show. During the second song of her set, "I Found Someone", Cher fell down at the front of the stage.
Apparently, her heel got stuck in--as she later put it--"one of these jeweled...whatever these fucking things are." She was referring to her elaborate beige, glittering and fringe-heavy Bob Mackie outfit, complete with wild headress of course.
But Cher soldiered on, making jokes about how she has never fallen down in her

Catalogs for Ivanka Trump's jewelry collection!
Yup. It's true. That's pretty much all your reading material here at Trump Las Vegas. In fact, there's not even an in-room compendium to browse through while killing time in the suite. It figures Trump would only promote Trump in his properties.
We're holed up here right now and while the full review will be forthcoming tomorrow, we'll let you know that despite the lack of in-room reading material, we're actually liking Trump's place.
The hotel does not have a casino or any sort of nightlife for that matter (aside from the DJT Steakhouse) but that's actually a welcome change for a frequent Vegas visitor like ourselves.
The suite we're in has a king
Girls just wanna have fun, and occasionally wield their own cameras: Audrina Partridge snaps herself while hosting a party at Christian Audigier The Nightclub at Treasure Island in Las Vegas. First Lauren Conrad hosted a soiree there, and now it's her (once and future?) bestie's turn, along with potential new TV love interest Corey Bohan. Can he be the JustinBobby of 2008?
The fourth season of "The Hills" premieres tonight at 10 pm. But why watch when we'll have your full recap tomorrow morning? And follow along with Audrina's recently announced network-TV debut in the new series "Do Not Disturb" at HotelChatter.

In our latest edition of Viva Vegas Hotel Construction Updates we have two pretty big developments, both which - not surprisingly - are caused by the credit slowdown that's affecting everyone nowadays.
First, Elad Properties has announced that they are delaying the construction start of The Plaza until "sometime in 2009" (we won't hold our breath) but are still fully committed to finishing the project.
If you've got a bar, who needs a beach? Ryan Phillippe and girlfriend Abbie Cornish ("Stop-Loss," "Elizabeth: The Golden Age") drink Grey Goose and cranberries by the pool at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Later, the pair went to a performance of Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio with hundreds of thrill-seeking Midwesterners.
Meanwhile, Phillippe's ex Reese Witherspoon was spotted in Morocco--not in a bikini, but fully clothed and sharing a meal with long-haired Jaunted fave Jake Gyllenhaal. So which would you choose for your summer vacation this year: Vegas or North Africa?

What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas--Family-Style
$149 per person
Normally, we wouldn't consider Las Vegas a great place to take the family but The Signature at MGM Grand is a pretty family-friendly hotel. There is no obnoxious casino in the lobby (you have to walk on through to the MGM Grand for that) nor are there bars or nightclubs pulsing on-site (Again, head to the MGM Grand for that scene.
Plus the hotel has its own pool area, a Starbucks coffee shop, its own Concierge services and the rooms are all suites complete with kitchenettes. And it's like totally affordable.

Speaking of Las Vegas hoteliers, we saw this news report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal about Steve Wynn:
The incident unfolded about 9:30 p.m. July 25 at the VIP valet parking area of Wynn Las Vegas, according to a police report.
As Wynn headed for the doors, Sarah Cournede stepped out from a small crowd and propositioned him, the report said. Wynn put his arm around the woman and continued toward the doors, where he told a door man to summon security, the report said.
Wynn held onto Cournede as she struggled to escape, and her sister, Maria Cournede, eventually joined the fray and tried to pull her sister away, the report said. During
