Turn Here joined the user-created-content fray last spring as a venue for locals around the globe to submit video guides to their favorite neighborhoods, scenes and events – a sort of Web-only Current TV, sans cringe-inducing terminology like “pods.” Thus far, the coverage is a bit spotty: the “States” section lists a handful of US destinations, plus Canada, Mexico, and, um, France, Thailand and South Korea. There’s also a preponderance of clips hosted by actors and musicians, who don’t skip any opportunities for free advertising. Still, the clips are well-produced, the info is up-to-date, and the best offer either a real insider’s look, or high entertainment value – as in this tour of Williamsburg, Brooklyn with a guy who could have worked as Jack Nicholson’s stunt double in The Shining.
