Europe on Foot
Posted on Mar 28, 2006 01:09 AM by kristin

Just when you thought there was no new way to see Europe, now that even the Balkans have become a hot destination, comes this piece of news about one filmmaker’s deliberate act of travel anachronism – walking from Spain to Ukraine, call it Slow Travel.

Inspired by an interview in which Werner Herzog said that walking 5,000 km, “say, from Madrid to Kiev,” would be a better education for budding cineastes than film school, since “academia is the death of cinema,” Chicagoan Lee Kazimir decided to take Herzog at his word. He planned his route, raised funds one $20-dollar donation at a time, and is currently in his first month of the walk, filming his journey along the way to be edited into a documentary called More Shoes. The video footage, alas, won’t be available until the trip is complete, but in the meantime you can follow his progress through photos and a journal that are updated every few days. (via Jaunted)
